Who’s
Who on the Team?
|
The Ice Cat team has accepted the gauntlet thrown down by the Eco-Marine
Challenge. As the first team to sail a multihull inside the Antarctic Circle,
they enjoy the meticulous planning and execution of a challenging voyage.
Details of this power boat challenge, the vessel being used, the design principles
behind the efficiency, and updated news of the adventure are explained on
other pages within this website.
Taking only the minimum allowed crew of four, the team have doubled the challenge
by making the distance over 1000 miles. Each crew member brings a unique level
of experience and expertise to the team. Places on board were limited by the
parameters of the challenge, with each crew member requiring multi skills
to earn their place.
Owner/Skipper: Bill Brosnan.
Sought out a designer who could deliver his requirement of an extremely efficient
cruising power catamaran, then spent three years hands-on building the boat
on a Sunshine Coast strawberry farm. (See Building and specs) Bill’s
meticulous approach to organization of large projects will ensure no ‘overlooked’ items
hinder the successful outcome of this attempt at the Eco-Marine challenge.
Performed well in the shakedown cruise to Cato Reef, in at times unpleasant
headwind conditions, and has proved his credentials for skippering this voyage. |

Designer: Robin Chamberlin
With nearly forty years of multihull design, and more than 150,000 offshore
miles in both hemispheres, Robin brings the expertise and design skills
that turned Bill’s concept into a reality which achieves the desired
efficiencies. He now lends his considerable experience in southern waters,
and his technical knowledge of all the systems on board, to ensure the
most efficient voyage possible in pursuit of success in the Eco-Marine
Challenge.

Boatbuilder: Bruce Arms
A Kiwi, now Aussie, who made his way to Australia by way of the Solo
Trans Tasman Race. His expertise as a professional boat builder
has made him sought after
on the Sunshine Coast. As one of the employed builders who spent the entire
time on the construction project, Bruce has the intimate knowledge of the
structure to be ‘Mr Fixit’ if required. His many ocean
miles in rugged conditions on both sides of the Tasman qualify
him to handle the rigors of sailing south.

Media: Terry Travers
Founded and published Inside Multihulls magazine, as well as Australian representative
for the US Multihull magazine. These days contributes to magazines here and
abroad, but has of recent times had hands on involvement in setting up a multihull
sailing school in Tasmania. Will produce the media updates. He has credit for
a multihull voyage to Antarctica and a solo trailable multihull crossing of
Bass Strait, earning his place in the crew. |
